Alphakids Plus blackline master activities are designed to be used with the Alphakids Plus fiction and information books. The activities
are closely related to the books and encourage students to return to the books to reread
and seek out information. They also focus
on extending and consolidating the content introduced in the Alphakids Plus books.
The Alphakids Plus blackline master activities provide
opportunities to practise and extend the students’ concepts about print and early reading strategies.The activities focus on:
• building
students’ confidence with reading and writing words and letters
• practising the use of high-frequency words within various sentence
patterns
• phonemic awareness and the relationship between sounds and letters
• building up word banks of key vocabulary
• organising
information, which requires critical and creative thinking
• constructing story maps
• creating word webs
• classifying information.
There
are also many creative socio-dramatic activities such as creating stick puppets for a play or activities to encourage children’s conversations,
and a range of book-making activities including concertina books, strip books and books where language experience using key vocabulary
is a focus.
